On 6 September 1991, the Soviet Government officially recognized the independence of the Baltic States after a revolution, known as the ‘Baltic Wave’. The Baltic Wave has been a model for the rest of the world and has even inspired the recent 2020 Belarusian revolution, a movement that has been repressed by the authoritarian regime of Alexander Lukashenko.
Come join us at the DISSIDENT club as we focus on 30 years of independence of the Baltic states, and how today they continue to fight the “Soviet” influence and repression in the region, especially by providing refuge to Belarusian dissidents who are fleeing the repressive regime there.
We will be hosting Emilija Pundziute, a researcher of international relations at the Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania, who is also the president of the Lithuanian community in France. She will be joined by Alice Syrakvash, co-president for Association “Communauté des Belarusses à Paris”
